DYSLEXIA is a specific learning disability in reading. People with dyslexia have trouble reading accurately and fluently. They may also have difficulties with reading comprehension, spelling and writing. It’s important to know that while dyslexia impacts learning, it’s not a problem of intelligence. People with dyslexia are just as smart as their peers. If a child has dyslexia, they will not outgrow it, but there are supports, teaching approaches and strategies to help overcome challenges.

At Eyetek, we have trained optometrists who are able to screen for dyslexia in children from the age of 9 years. The screening is a guideline for parents that will identify children that may require further assessment by a dyslexia specialist. We make use of the Rooi Appel Dyslexia Diagnostic Test and assessments are done in both English and Afrikaans.
